Raymond Moloney founded Bally in 1932 and named it after his first game, Ballyhoo. Bally's Freedom, from December 1976, was the first mainstream solid-state pinball machine. In 1988 Williams bought Bally/Midway, and Williams kept putting the Bally name on pinball games until it left the business in 1999. So a 1990s Bally is a Williams-built game on the same WPC hardware, filed under Bally because that's the badge on the backglass. The Addams Family, a Bally, sold 20,270 units, still the record. Chicago Gaming Company has since remade Attack from Mars and Monster Bash, and the remakes' big color displays give them away.
